This year, $2.5 million will be invested to begin the work on the functional programming, conceptual design, and construction documentation planning for the renovations and upgrades to the surgical unit, oncology, and ICU. The Horizon Health Network Board will partner with the provincial government for funding on the design and planning phase of this project. The redevelopment and renovations are expected to take place over the next five years.

The project will increase ICU efficiencies and improve departmental relationships and efficiencies between surgery, oncology, and ICU. They will help facilitate high-quality patient and family-centred care in safely and efficiently.

Improving access to acute care is a pillar of the New Brunswick Family Plan Framework. The framework aims to improve the lives of all residents by addressing the factors that have the greatest impact upon health and well-being. It focuses government action in seven priority areas: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with mental health challenges; fostering healthy aging and support for seniors; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty; and supporting people with disabilities.
