Lawsuit filed over Howe bridge construction

Posted on January 11, 2017

A new legal challenge has been filed by Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel Moroun in an attempt to block the construction of the proposed Gordie Howe International Bridge linking Windsor, Ont. With Detroit, Mich.

According to an article from Crain’s Detroit Business, the new lawsuit, filed by six companies owned by Moroun, cites illegal activity by Governor Rick Snyder’s administration as the cause for the challenge.

Filed in the Michigan Court of Claims on Dec. 29, the suit claims that Snyder is illegally bypassing the power of the legislature to build international bridges. The lawsuit seeks to stop parcels of land, currently owned by Moroun’s companies, from being condemned and removed to make way for the construction of the new bridge.

The $2.14-billion Gordie Howe International Bridge, #20 on the 2017 Top100 Projects list, is scheduled for completion in 2020.
