Construction workers on strike in Quebec

Posted on May 25, 2017

Infrastructure projects across Quebec are at a standstill, as over 170,000 construction workers across the province have gone on strike.

According to an article from the CBC, the workers have gone since April 30 without a collective agreement. Talks between the unions and employers broke down on May 23, which put a stop to work being done across the province.

In the ongoing dispute, issues surrounding scheduling, salaries, and consistency of work have been cited as sticking points in the negotiations.

There has been some discussion as to whether or not the Quebec Government with introduce back-to-work legislation, but at this stage, there is no indication that there is a plan in place to do so should the dispute continue unresolved in the coming days.
