Construction progressing on $130-million naval facility

Posted on July 10, 2017

Construction of the Nanisivik naval refuelling facility is progressing on-time and on-budget.

According to an article from CBC News, the project has entered the construction season with expectations that the revised deadline of fall 2018 will be met for the $130-million facility.

The Nanisivik Naval Facility, located in Arctic Bay, Nunavut, will operate as a docking and refuelling facility for the Royal Canadian Navy, and other government vessels. The project involves the construction of several structures, including new fuel storage tanks, buildings and other supporting infrastructure, as well as repairs to an existing deep water port.

In June 2014, a construction contract was awarded to Almiq Contracting ltd of Iqaluit. Ground was broken at the site in July of 2015, which is located just south of the Northwest Passage along the north shore of Baffin Island.
