Construction begins on wastewater treatment facility

Posted on October 16, 2017

Work has officially begun on TransAqua’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade and Modernization Project. The facility serves Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe.

“Our government’s investment in this important wastewater treatment facility will improve the management of combined sewer overflows and help us better protect our environment,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers.

Rogers spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The federal and provincial governments are investing a combined $45.4 million into improvements to the facility. The remaining $45.2 million will be provided by TransAqua, which was formerly known as the Greater Moncton Wastewater Commission.

“TransAqua is very excited that our upgrade and modernization project has received the support of both the federal and provincial governments in the amount of $22.6 million each,” said David Muir, chair of TransAqua. “This support, along with funds provided by our ratepayers through increased rate payments over a number of years, has enabled TransAqua to commence work on a timely basis and means the project will be completed in accordance with federal regulations by 2020.”
