American School in Japan

Tange Associates designed the new suite of athletic facilities at the Chofu Campus of the American School in Japan (ASIJ) in Tokyo, which were completed in December 2012. The grand entrance gate, designed in the school’s traditional ironwork motif, creates a new image and sense of arrival at the main entrance of ASIJ. This multi-function building, coupled with the entrance gate, provides bus and car parking as well as student drop-off and pick-up on the ground floor. On the second floor are the fitness centre and tennis courts. This eco-friendly project employs a geothermal air conditioning system, green walls and solar panels.
