Non-profit organization VERDMX is pushing the boundaries of art and sustainability with its vertical gardens in a city notorious for its smog, traffic, and air pollution. So far it has installed three vertical gardens throughout Mexico City with hopes to clean and green this city of 8.8 million people, according to inhabitat.com.

These sky-high eco-sculptures serve as both works of art and oxygen replenishers. The project, sponsored by Nissan, serves as an example of how nonprofit organizations, businesses, and local governments are working to turn Mexico City into an urban sustainability model.
