$100M Project Management Services Contract for the Spadina Subway Extension |

Ontario’s budget for 2008 includes, as we’ve already reported, increased funding for infrastructure. Cities are now working out exactly which sectors will get the cash infusion. A strong contender for dollars in any city is transit, especially given the high price tag of just a single project. Back in 2006, the province of Ontario announced $670 million in funding for the Spadina Subway Extension project, with matching contributions from the federal government and the municipalities for a total project cost of $2 billion. The Executive Task Force (ETF) appointed to guide the Toronto-York extension recently approved a budget of $14 million for 2008. The project is moving forward, with the TTC awarding Spadina Link Project Managers, a joint venture of Hatch Mott MacDonald, Delcan, and MMM Group, a seven-year, $100 million project management services contract. The start date is sometime in April 2008 with the project expected to wrap up in 2015. The estimated final cost of the project is now $2.63 billion, making the Spadina Subway Extension the largest transit expansion project to be undertaken by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) in 40 years, since the Bloor-Danforth Subway line was built. |
